During the summer of 2008 I am going to take an approximately two month break from my employment with the software company ActiveCampaign for a full time summer internship with the United States JAG Corps (the Army’s lawyers). I learned about this internship opportunity in the Summer of 2007 and liked the hands-on legal experience that I would be able to gain, compared to other opportunities where I would mainly just do research for an associate or partner at a law firm. I applied through DePaul’s career center, and was accepted for an interview. I was then interviewed by in the Fall of 2007, and this interview convinced me to complete the next steps of the application for the internship. After my interview, my interviewer took the time to discuss her recent oral argument before the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, which gave me very interesting insight into appellate practice. I was accepted to the Internship and given my first choice location (which was in Illinois).

During the internship I understand that I will be working primary in the area of Contract Law. I’m looking forward to the the experience I will gain from this employment, as well as the benefits this experience will provide in terms of employment after I graduate from law school in the Spring of 2009. So far I have been in contact with the Captain with whom I will be working this Summer. Just as was the case with the Major who interviewed me, my conversations with the Captain have been quite informative. Based upon my interactions with the Major and the Captain, I’m already confident this will be an excellent summer internship experience.
